Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a non-profit
volunteer organization started in 1987 to
assist the Lawrence Public Library with special programs,
the purchase of materials, and
the total funding of the children's programs.
The "Friends" have provided the library, and
thus the community with service and materials
at a higher standard than would have been
available without their volunteers and community involvement.
Sign of the Kingdom-West
Sign of the Kingdom-West is located in Sumner and is a non-profit
Christian organization. They provide clothes,
food, drug and alcohol counseling, overnight
lodging and GED classes. Their aim is 'to
teach people to fish rather than hand them a
fish."
Sign of the Kingdom-East
Sign of the Kingdom-East was formed by the Area Ministerial Association
and they serve the needy in many
ways; food for people who need it as well as
donated clothing, household items; utility
and rent as well as RX's as the need arises;
help to transients with food, clothing if
needed and one night at Mr. K's Motel. This
outreach depends on the gifts of goods and
monies to provide these services. Work is all
done by volunteers.
White House Food Pantry
The White House Food Pantry strives to help the
community by taking food to those in need. The
volunteers also try to observe other needs of the
people. Administration is through the 'White
House Christian Church and they work in
conjunction with the Public Aid agencies, as
well as those seeking aid for the needy families.
Most of the money from the United
Fund in the past has been used for perishable
food.
Lawrence County Senior Citizens
Senior Citizens are served by this group
through a number of services. Specifically,
home delivered meals (United Funds ear-
marked for this), in-center meals, health
screening, nutrition education, income tax
preparation, assistance with Medicare filing,
transportation for those in need.
Lawrenceville Teen Center
Delta Theta Tau, Lawrenceville, sponsors
the Teen Center. Through chaperoned dances
they provide a place where youth
can have fun and socialize with their peers.
The Teen Center is also available for private
parties.
Lawrence County Humane Society
This local group of volunteers takes in unwanted animals and attempts to place them in good homes. They will also check on neglected animals and help the owners learn how to care for them. They also try to make people more aware of the need to spay and neuter their animals and help low income families with the cost of doing so.
Lawrence County Camp Girls
Provide a scouting program for all girls in Lawrence County that will deepen friendships, teach about nature, patriotism and good family values.
