Mark A. Carrithers, Lawrence County Treasurer would like to remind taxpayers that there is a Drop Box for payments located outside the Treasurer’s Office at the Courthouse Annex, 1106 Jefferson St., Lawrenceville, Ill. Property Taxes can be paid using the Drop Box by placing payment stub and payment in an envelope and placing it in the Drop Box. Payments placed in Drop Box after closing on due date will be considered paid on time before office opens the next day at 9 A.M. Payments that are postmarked on the due date will also be considered as on time payments, no other exceptions will be accepted.

Again this year is the ability to pay taxes with a credit card through the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office at the Illinois Funds E-Pay site, www.illinoisepay.com or by using the Interactive Voice Response System at 1 (877) ILL-EPAY.

According to State Law, a penalty of 1&1/2% per month (or any portion thereof) is added, if taxes are not paid on or before due date.

We are also pleased that most of the area banks will be participating again in collection of property taxes for the 2007 payable 2008 collection year. The following list provides information in regards to those financial institutions participating for the 2007-2008 Tax Season.

Property Taxes are due and payable 1st installment August 11th and 2nd installment October 20th 2008.

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE IS WRONG ON THE BILL THE SECOND DUE DATE SHOULD HAVE BEEN OCTOBER 20TH AND NOT THE 19TH. THE 19TH IS A SUNDAY AND THE OFFICE IS CLOSED ON SUNDAY HOWEVER THE DROP BOX IS AVAILABLE AND YOU WILL NOT BE LATE IF PAID ON THE 20TH.
