The Lawrence County Industrial Development Council (LCIDC) came into existence in August of 1983 when the Lawrence County Board passed a resolution establishing a volunteer council to be composed of Lawrence County citizens to promote economic growth in Lawrence County. In October of 1983, the council received a Certificate of Incorporation from the State of Illinois for a Not-For-Profit Corporation and tax-exempt status (501 c3) was received in April of 1985.
The LCIDC is the formal marketing and economic development agency for Lawrence County. Its main purpose is to retain, create and recruit jobs. The Industrial Development Council administers Illinois Enterprise Zone #49, manages a revolving loan fund, markets two other revolving loan funds, and administers Foreign Trade Zone #146.
A board of directors composed of citizen volunteers governs the Lawrence County Industrial Development Council. It employs two full-time employees and maintains five committees headed and staffed by volunteers from the community. Because the LCIDC is a 501 c3 non-profit, private organization that does not have dues-paying members, it depends on financial support from the public and private sectors of the county.
